Critical Details Brand Owners Often Overlook When Customizing

Packaging Pouches

In the flexible packaging industry, we often encounter clients who have beautiful designs and satisfied samples, but when mass production arrives, unexpected problems arise — color mismatch, weak seals, misaligned printing, uneven bag structure…

These issues are rarely due to poor factory workmanship. Instead, they stem from critical details being overlooked during the early customization phase.

1. Print Files: CMYK or Pantone?

One of the most common mistakes is submitting RGB design files. In packaging printing, we must use CMYK four-color or Pantone spot color. Printing RGB files directly leads to significant color deviation, especially in bright or metallic tones.

Recommendation: Request the factory’s ICC color profile in advance and design in CMYK mode from the start. For high-precision color requirements, use Pantone spot colors and request physical color swatch comparison.

2. Pouch Style vs. Filling Line Compatibility

Many brands focus only on aesthetics, forgetting the importance of “fill-ability.” Different pouch types (stand-up, flat-bottom, spout) have different requirements for filling equipment. Size, thickness, and opening design all affect filling speed and seal integrity.

Recommendation: Before finalizing your pouch design, discuss your product type (liquid, powder, granular) and filling method (manual, semi-auto, fully automatic) with the factory to ensure compatibility.

3. Sealing Method and Material Selection

Seal strength directly impacts product shelf life and transportation safety. Different material combinations (PET, AL, PE, NYLON) determine heat-sealing temperature, pressure, and duration. Improper sealing parameters can lead to false seals or burn-through.

Recommendation: Request a seal strength test report and perform full sealing parameter validation before mass production.

Conclusion:

Customizing packaging is not as simple as sending a design file to a factory. The information gap between brands and manufacturers is often the root cause of issues. As a professional flexible packaging manufacturer, we recommend deep communication during the design phase to avoid costly mistakes later.
